Blaise & Jasper waiting for a goal

Imooty is pleased to announce that Jasper Dencker-Hahn has joined the Imooty team. Jasper has 20 years experience in the media monitoring field and will assist Imooty in business development. His most recent engagements include Mediaclippings, Picturesafe and Xerox. To celebrate the collaboration we invited Jasper to Olympia Stadion to watch his favourite soccer team, Werder Bremen, play Hertha BSC. An excellent game which ended with a 2-1 favor for the home team. With his characteristic optimism Jasper maintained that Werder were not giving its best because of preparations to the UEFA cup!

Between the grant and the multimedia prize we have a chance to expand our team with a programmer specializing in Luncene / Nutch. He is in charge of developing additional technology capable of scanning qualitative news and information sites. This will greatly improve the content on Imooty - to that end we also employ part time staff to help us further contribute content to our media monitoring tool.

In partnership with Peugeot Avenue on Unter den Linden (automotive branding space) we have arranged to live-feed a press conference event and invite Imooty users and community to participate in a Q&A session.

The occasion is that Imooty is being presented as a project supported by “Projekt Zukunft” (Project Future), a creative industries network working under the auspices of the Business and Technology department of the Berlin Senate.

Meanwhile, we’re working hard at keeping up with the amounts of information to be processed. There are some technological glitches to sort out.

Work on the application for an Exist grant is also moving forward, deadline one month from now. This is a golden opportunity to get seed money without exchange of equity. We are confident that our most recent achievements, the invitation from EACD and our Project of the month status, will persuade the jury.

News Flash; We are now being coached through the TCC! Our coach has helped us structure our business concepts and recently introduced us to the Profund incubator department at the Freie Universität Berlin (FU). They will help us further develop our personalized news service.

Profund works with the objective of creating new business opportunities in Berlin. It provides an excellent environment for cooperation between the academic network and new ventures. Professors are on hand as experts and mentors and founders exchange information about their experiences.

Through Profund, Imooty will soon submit an application for the a ’start up’ grant called the Exist Gründerstipendium. The ca. €100.000 grant includes funding for a team of 3 full time positions, office equipment and external consulting services.

The director of Profund, Mr. Patrik Varadinek has introduced Imooty to Dr. Raupp from the Journalism and Communication Studies Department. Dr. Raupp has agreed to mentor the project through the grant period (12 months). Needless to say, an association with Profund, FU and Dr. Raupp will greatly increase the credibility of our project.

As for the third person to be included in the grant application, we have found Ms. Serena Botti. She shares our enthusiasm for a European media landscape and will help us with PR and communication. Ms. Botti has a Master of International Relations from the University of Bologna with focus on political sciences with a specialization on EU institutions.

The idea of developig Imooty as a media monitor, dates back to the World Cup final of 2006 between France and Italy here in Berlin. As the final ended Italians popped the Prosecco while the French wondered what to do with the Champagne. Meanwhile, the talk was all about what Materazzi had said to provoke the head-butt of Zidane…

Zidane had “no comment” to the incident and journalists hired lip readers to find out what had been said. In Italy a version was that Materazzi simply had asked for Zidane’s shirt after the match. In France the version was that harsh words had fallen about Zidane’s sister and/or mother. In Norway someone joked that a joke had been made on Zidane’s hairdo (he’s bald). Interesting press review!

Hearing about these stories, we realized, depended on our international network here in Berlin. Looking up and learning of the different news perspectives, on a single European media platform was not possible. Why wasn’t there be a place where one could easily search and access this information? The idea of creating a democratized press clipping service was born.

Imooty has so far been well received – bloggers are exited to be part of the platform and prestigious publications such as the Economist, Le Monde Diplomatique and Tagesschau have commended our initiative.
