press-review-discussion-at-multimedia-conference1Imooty attended Berlin’s 4th conference multimedia start-up’s yesterday. We were pleased to present our mobile news application at the conference, which is a forum for multimedia and technology start-ups to network with prospective investors. It took place in the former DDR movie theater “Kosmos” in East Berlin.

This year’s motto was to collaborate and succeed in a time of economic crisis and Mr Kaczorowski, Director of Internet Business Solutions at Cisco Systems AG, held the keynote address. He told us how Cisco, one of the world’s largest networking equipment and network management suppliers didn’t had to cancel its annual leadership conference. Instead, new ‘live size’ video conference applications enabled them to organize a 3 day online conference for top level management world wide. Later, we were pleased to share Imooty’s collaborative mobile news features with the conference participants.

Another presentation by Dr. Martin Kupp, from European School of Management and Technology in Berlin, dealt with the fundamental question: how to stay longer on the market? The Queen of pop, Madonna would serve as an example for success as her biography is a textbook example for marketing and PR strategies.

In short the reccomendations were as follows;

  1. Move with the flow and endorse new technologies; Madonna boldly promoted MTV’s use of music videos already in 1983.
  2. Break some rules; Madonna has questioned sexual and religious tabus her entire career.
  3. Blend with the up-and coming, Madonna has collaborated with young artists and got good coverage as she kissed Britney Spears in the MTV Video Awards in 2003.

As for the exhibition, we had our own stand somewhere in the middle, presenting Imooty’s Media Monitoring solutions. As expected, the financial crisis dominated the general mood at the conference, and proved to be an excellent occasion to present Imooty as a concrete way for companies to save money on online reputation management services in trying times.
And the Gummy Bears at our stand, courtesy of Profund, FU, was a huge hit among fellow exhibitors as well as investors.

As the European Union continues its development, more people migrate, communicate in different languages and follow news and current events from nearby countries. As Imooty founders, we are examples of this development. Blaise is French, and I’m Norwegian, both living and working in Berlin for some time and looking for a sensible way to create a personalized news overview.

Through personal experiences, we’ve found that new language, inspire new thought. We’re curious, optimistic, like surprises and are interested in what goes on in the world. We frequently access German, French, English and Scandinavian news sources and we’d like to develop a platform allowing for quick shifts between the media landscapes and insight into European market intelligence.

We’d also like Imooty to become a platform for a common European media landscape – there’s already economic and political unity and collaboration. It is time to develop similar structures for media content and press review services.

Blaise is in charge of the overall design, ergonomics and infrastructure of the platform. Kristoffer responsible for questioning those ideas and find potential value in the marketplace.

The idea of developig Imooty as a media monitor, dates back to the World Cup final of 2006 between France and Italy here in Berlin. As the final ended Italians popped the Prosecco while the French wondered what to do with the Champagne. Meanwhile, the talk was all about what Materazzi had said to provoke the head-butt of Zidane…

Zidane had “no comment” to the incident and journalists hired lip readers to find out what had been said. In Italy a version was that Materazzi simply had asked for Zidane’s shirt after the match. In France the version was that harsh words had fallen about Zidane’s sister and/or mother. In Norway someone joked that a joke had been made on Zidane’s hairdo (he’s bald). Interesting press review!

Hearing about these stories, we realized, depended on our international network here in Berlin. Looking up and learning of the different news perspectives, on a single European media platform was not possible. Why wasn’t there be a place where one could easily search and access this information? The idea of creating a democratized press clipping service was born.

Imooty has so far been well received – bloggers are exited to be part of the platform and prestigious publications such as the Economist, Le Monde Diplomatique and Tagesschau have commended our initiative.
